From a franchise standpoint, the story seems unnecessary and forced to say the least, yet it fits perfectly the new genre and design decisions made in the game.

This harmony between the facts and the game design makes up for what could be seen as just an unnecessary story. It kinda feels unique as they mix various styles, but it seems bland and with no identity at times.
